JIMMY JOHNSON TRIBUTE
Fox Sports NFL Sunday is stacked with hall of farmers but only one hall of fame coach: Jimmy Johnson.
For Super Bowl LVIII Engine Room and Fox Sports produced a retrospective honoring the career of coach Jimmy Johnson. Boma was called upon to create iconic stadiums and crowds matching to the specific time period of the narrative.
The video takes us on a journey stopping at important milestones in Jimmy’s life beginning as a college player in the Cotton Bowl where he was part of the 1965 national championship team. Using a combination of maya, houdini along with stable diffusion and comfy ui for AI generated stadium details and crowd simulations, we created a stylized stadium from historical photography. The details matched the time period right down to the suits and ties on the coaches and fans and the bunting on the stadium railings.
Additional stadiums built were an Orange Bowl mash-up from the late '80s - mid-'90's, Texas Stadium circa 1991, The Rose Bowl circa 1992 and the Georgia Dome circa 1993.
As the edit progressed transition tests were created to move between stadiums and eras.
Unlike a roast, a tribute is meant to make the honoree tear up with the memories of a life well lived. Mission accomplished.
The 5 minute film was directed by Engine Room’s Dan Schmit.
